Conversations with Kayla

Sometimes I forget just how literally kids can take things we say.  This conversation with Reese made me smile:

Reese:  "Mom, I'm hungry.  Can I have something to eat?"

Me:  "Sure, what would you like?"

Reese:  "Can you tell me what we have?"

Me:  "Oh, hey, how about an ice cream cone?"

Reese:  "Sure."

I proceed to kitchen to fix said treat.

Reese:  "Hey, Mom?"

Me:  "Yes?"

Reese:  "Can I have ice cream in it too?"

Colored Bubbles

I happened upon the coolest thing while I was spending my "me" time at the grocery store last week.  Washable colored bubbles - what could be more fun, I foolishly thought?



I picked the pink ones since pink used to be Reese's favorite color (rainbow is her current favorite, since I know you were wondering)

We put on old clothes that I wasn't worried about staining - at least I was smart enough to question the validity of "washable"

We started blowing and had to move to the grass because the bubbles were leaving pink stains on the concrete wherever they hit and I knew T wouldn't be happy if it didn't wash off.

We both ended up with pink all over us and our clothes, but I wasn't too worried because it's washable, remember?

Now I know why I found the bubble in the clearance aisle.  Can't wait to wash the clothes!

But...we did have fun!

Reese's first day of school

She was up at the crack of dawn...

The plan was for T to take her and I'd leave work and meet them there for pictures and to get her settled in.

T said she was ready long before him and kept asking if it was time to go.  We took pictures in front of the school before walking her in.

We helped her find her cubby and then she was gone.  Narry a kiss or goodbye.  Our girl has flown from the nest.

Can't wait to see her tonight to find out how her first day went.  For me, it's bittersweet - I'm really excited that school has started, but she's my baby...how can she be in school already?









Random Thoughts

A few things rolling around in my head:

My office is not in the best part of town.  We've had drunk guys passed out in the parking lot, beggars asking for handouts and even things stolen from cars in the parking lot.  Yesterday, though, I was truly dumbfounded to see a drug deal take place right outside my window.  Unbelievable!

Reese starts school Monday.  I cannot believe it's time - it's passed by so quickly.  We're making cupcakes to take to daycare Friday.  We're going to throw our own little "going away" party.  She's getting very excited about going to school - to the point of crying about going to daycare - the same house she's been going to since she was 3 months old!

My Dad just turned 78.  I talked to him on his birthday and he told me he's going back to work.  Driving a school bus.  I love my Dad, and think I'd trust his driving, but do I want a 78 year old driving MY child to school?  Not in a million years!  He said that they told him as long as he could still walk, he could drive a bus...hows that for a job requirement?

5 weeks till we leave for Disneyworld.  I have never been there before - I think I'm almost as excited as Reese.  T is teaching her how to subtly make herself taller (tiptoes just a bit) because he thinks she's going to be a little short for some of the rides - this preparation for our trip is cracking me up!!

I had to look at dictionary dot com to see if subtly was really a word - it is...it just looks funny to me today.

College football starts in 3 weeks (at least for our team).  T and I have always tried to go to at least one game, but didn't make one last year.  Sure hope we can this year.

We haven't had enough rain 'round these parts this summer to keep a cactus alive, but today makes 4 days of rain - in a row!  We'll go from having crunchy grass to makeshift ponds in the backyard.

I've never seen any cactus in Oklahoma.

And with that, Reese and I are headed out to get school supplies and some new clothes!
