Komen 3 Day for the Cure Update

Just a quick update to keep myself on track:

In the month of August, I walked/ran a total of 109 miles (that's like walking from Tulsa to Oklahoma City!!) which took a total of 26 hours and 47 minutes...Run Forest Run!  Between now and the walk, my weekly training miles will continue to increase.

I've raised $795 of my $2,300 entry fee which means I need to raise $1,500 more to participate in the event.  I've made salsa to sell at work and plan to have a bake sale.  I still haven't ruled out standing at the highway offramp to solicit donations :)

So, I'm proud of my progress, but more thankful for the support and encouragement I've received from friends/family as I continue on this trek to help kick Breast Cancer in the booty in honor of my Mom!

If you know anyone who may be interested in donating to a very worthwhile tax-deductible cause, please direct them to my homepage - I'd be ever so grateful!!

3 Day for the Cure Update

This week's update:

Training:

Total miles I was supposed to walk:  21
Total miles I walked/ran:  19

Oops!  I got a little overconfident last week thinking a jump from 19 to 21 wasn't a big deal.  Throw in a girl's night out (Reese and I both at a friend's) and a day with some stomach issues, and the 21 disappeared.  I'm rejuvenated for this week though and fully prepared to walk/run the 22 I'm scheduled to do!

Fundraising:

I'm currently at 24% of my goal!!!  Unfortunately, I've done the easy part - sending out emails asking for donations.  Now, I've GOT to get my other fundraising ideas started or I'll never reach my goal.

Any ideas for fundraising?  Nothing could be as lame as the ideas I've come up with...so please share - I need help!!!!

3 Day for the Cure Update

Ok, so here's this week's update:

Training:
Total miles I was supposed to walk last week:  19
Total miles I walked/ran:  19

I rock!!

This week is 21...not a big jump, so I'm not worried.  I have become friends with several people I see daily at the mall.  I have officially become one of "them".  I wonder if people are thinking "oh look, another old fart walking while I'm trying to shop".

The good news is that it takes a little more than my whole lunch hour to walk, so I don't have time to actually spend any money.  The bad news is that I haven't lost any pounds yet.

Fundraising:
I got my donation page up and going.  I sent emails to my co-workers linking them to my page (hoping for donations).  The guy in the cubicle next to mine laughed when he opened my page because of the small amount of money I've raised so far.  Well, keep laughing...I'll make sure I gloat when I reach my goal!

I was more than surprised that I figured out how to link my personal page to my blog---lookie to the right---If you know anyone who's looking for a good cause to donate to, I'm taking donations :)  - or if you want to know why I'm doing this, you can read all about it on my page.

No progress yet on my other fundraising ideas although I haven't ruled out standing at the highway offramp with a sign...I'm hoping it doesn't actually come to that.

Welcome to the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure:

3 Day for the Cure Update

Decided I'd do weekly updates on my training/fundraising for my upcoming participation in the 3-Day for the Cure event.

Last week, I was supposed to walk a total of 15 miles.  I'm proud to say that I accomplished (my 1st week's) goal.  As of yesterday morning, I still needed 4 miles, so I did them on the treadmill.  I have decided - after yesterday - that I am not a very good treadmill walker.  I don't mind running on one so much, but walking is BORING!  So, I cheated and ran 1 3/4 of my 4 miles.  I figure that's ok since I did the mileage either way.

From here, my weekly mileage steadily increases...this week I need to walk 19.

As for the fundraising, I'm still holding steady at the $20 from overall guy.  I did work on my personal fundraising page and will be sending the link out to all my co-workers and friends hoping that I can get a jumpstart.  My 2 fundraising ideas (items for sale) have not taken off yet.  Not because they aren't good items, but because I haven't started trying to sell them yet.  Ok, one of them I haven't even made yet.

I'm down to 15 weeks before the event - guess I better get started!  I don't  think the fundraising part will be easy, but after 1 week of the "training" to actually be able to complete the walk, I'm thinking that the walk is going to be the hardest part!!!

One positive point to my treadmill walk/run yesterday.  Reese came up to the treadmill while I was running and asked me where my legs went.  When I asked her what she was talking about, she said, "you're going so fast, I can't even see your legs!"  What an excellent incentive...I felt like I was the most awesome runner in the world (even though I really wasn't going THAT fast).
